TINMAN
Authors: Karen Black, Matt Walton
4 out of 5 stars
Gregory McGregor is thoroughly confused after a strange call he receives from his friend Charley Farnsworth. Charley sends Greg fake documentation and a plane ticket to Alaska, but refuses to tell him anything over the phone. Things quickly fall apart when Greg is nearly killed by a bomb. He goes to meet Charley in Denver but instead witnesses him being murdered. Deciding to hide out at Charley’s Aspen home, Greg ends up meeting Charley’s friend Corky. Suspecting Corky might also be in danger, she joins Greg on his mission to find out who is behind all of this and why. And what could this have to do with TINMAN, the company Charley worked for?
I was immediately pulled into the story. By the time Greg finished talking to Charley, I felt as confused as Greg was, then the explosion happens and everything continues at a rapid pace until Greg meets Corky.
I liked Greg and Corky individually. Greg is very relatable. He’s trying figure out what’s happening and what to do, and he sometimes jumps to conclusions. Corky’s past as a wanderer makes her interesting. She’s intelligent and has great instincts. I was unsure about their relationship in the beginning. They just seemed too different, and Greg seemed too willing to brush aside their differing viewpoints, like Corky caring a lot about the environment, which Greg has never given much thought to.
The ending was suspenseful, not just because of the events that happen, but because I was expecting something else to happen and was waiting for it. However, the final person to come after them did not surprise me because there were some pretty obvious hints.
Despite the few things I thought could have been better, I enjoyed this book. It’s overall well written and exciting, so I decided to rate it 4 out of 5 stars.
