Merry Little Mystic Murder by Patti Larsen

Merry Little Mystic Murder (Phoebe Monday Cozy Mysteries #1)

Author: Patti Larsen

5 out of 5 stars

Police sketch artist Phoebe Monday uses her magical ability to see into the past to help get more accurate sketches. The current case has her working with a homeless man who was attacked by a masked stranger, which is part of a string of similar attacks. After attending a Yule party, Phoebe and her family come home to find a dead man in their kitchen. When her mother, sister, and grandmother fall under suspicion despite their magical roles as the Mother, the Maiden, and the Crone, the family know something is wrong. Now it’s up to Phoebe to use her unconventional powers, including her ability to change someone’s luck, to find out why the man died and how it might relate to the attacks on the homeless.

I really enjoyed this book. It had a great flow and was an easy read, so the pages flew by. And the story had a good ending that made me want to read more and find out what happens next for Phoebe.

I really liked Phoebe. She’s a very sympathetic character because of her struggles with her magic and not quite fitting in with her family’s magical roles. Over the course of the book, she has a lot of character growth and becomes more confident and willing to learn more about her powers. I also liked the close relationship between the entire family. And there are moments where Phoebe remembers her childhood which helps show that close relationship.

There wasn’t anything I disliked about this book, so I’m rating it 5 out of 5 stars. Any fan of books with will like it, and at 157 pages, it’s a pretty quick read.
