The Curse of Three by Kevin Partner

The Curse of Three (Makepeace and Grimes #1)

Author: Kevin Partner

5 out of 5 stars

Ichabod Grimes tells John Makepeace about a previous case he investigated. In 1872, Grimes and Valentina are headed to a small village where three children have been kidnapped from their beds in the middle of the night. Will they figure out what took the children? Will they be too late to save any of them?

This short story really intrigued me. The characters were very interesting. Valentina is a vampire who works with Grimes and fights against vampires when they become lost to blood lust. Grimes is very knowledgeable and determined, I was actually reminded of Sherlock Holmes, but I had many questions about him and his background. Is he really just a man? How did he meet Valentina?

The short story was well written and drew me in easily. There were a couple of plot twists, and there was a good bit of suspense as they rush to find and save the children. There were even some funny bits at the end of the story.

Overall, there was nothing I disliked about this short story and it even surprised me, so I rated it 5 out of 5 stars. It’s a good introduction to the characters. And the characters and the hints about their background intrigued me, so I’ll definitely be reading more.
