Peril on the Peninsula by Theresa L. Carter

Peril on the Peninsula (Alex Paige Travel Mysteries #1)

Author: Theresa L. Carter

5 out of 5 stars

After going through cancer treatments for a year, Alex Paige is now cancer free and ready to return to her travel writing career. She’s excited when she gets an invitation to stay in a small town in Door County, Wisconsin. She’s thrilled when she arrives and finds her good friend William is also there. Unfortunately, she very quickly learns that the inn they’re staying at has recently been sold to Trevor Kaine, a shady businessman known for knocking down historic buildings and replacing them with modern hotels and amenities to cater to the richest people. She faced him once before when she was an investigative journalist. When she learns exactly what his plans are for the inn and the nearby nature reserve, she refuses to let him win. Then a man he was working with is found murdered, and she suspects Kaine might have done it. Alex needs to work fast to solve the murder and save the inn.

Alex is a great protagonist. She’s kind and empathetic. She’s also tough, determined, with a desire to see justice done. William is also a fun character. The two are obviously good friends who have fun together and back each other up when needed.

The story is a well-written page-turner. It has a good pace and flow, and the ending was fast paced and exciting. There’s also a theme throughout about greed destroying nature and history, not only greed from Kaine but also the murder victim and one of the inn’s owners. There’s a very nice speech at the end about remembering the things that are more important than money and how that is all lost when greed takes over.

Overall, there was nothing to dislike about this book. It has definitely earned 5 out of 5 stars. Any mystery fan will enjoy this book.
