Ghost Squad (Ghost Squad Rest in Peace series #1)
Author: Bob Moats
4 out of 5 stars
After messing up on a case, Detective Russ Baker is reassigned to work on cold cases. One morning, he wakes up to the ghost of Detective Wes Loomis. To be able to move on the the afterlife, Wes has been assigned to help Russ with his cases, so the spirits of the victims can move on. As they solve cases and Russ gains more respect, he is given an actie case involving a likely serial killer. Can Russ and Wes find and stop the killer?
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I liked the characters. They were interesting and well written. I enjoyed the they Russ and Wes’s relationship evolved from Russ finding Wes annoying to considering him a friend. The flow and pace of the story were good. There was also an element of humor, which wasn’t really my taste for what I find funny, others certainly would.
There were a few issues, bu I don’t think any of them were a big problem. First, Russ is a little too calm about suddenly having a ghost following him. At first, he thinks it’s a dream, but he accepts that Wes is real and doesn’t freak out at all. Then Russ continues to talk to Wes out loud even though Wes can read minds. He doesn’t want Wes reading his mind, but I thought it was a bit ridiculous that the idea was never even brought up as a way to talk to Wes around other people.
Like I mentioned, I consider these negatives relatively minor, so I decided to rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. If you like detective stories and stories with ghosts, then you should definitely give this book a chance. And with 142 pages on Kindle, it’s not very long either.
