Ranger’s Folly by J. T. Williams

Ranger’s Folly: A Tale of the Dwemhar (Lost Tales of The Realm Book 1)

Author: J. T. Williams

5 out of 5 stars

At the end of five years of war with the elves, Ranger Fadis eagerly returns home to his wife and son. But he doesn’t expect the changes he comes home too. Even worse, he has something that the King wants, and now a bounty has been placed on his head.

I think of short stories as good ways to get a taste of the author’s writing style and see if you want to read more, and this short story successfully did that. I wanted to read more and find out what happens with Fadis, his son, and the war with the elves.

The writing was great and had some nice descriptions. I felt sorry for Fadis, and it’s revealed how Fadis has changed over the years. It was a great introduction to Fadis and the series he is the main character of. Due to the very short length, 25 pages, I didn’t expect much world-building, but there was a little bit.

Overall, I didn’t dislike anything in this book, so it’s earned 5 out of 5 stars. If you’re a fantasy fan and are looking for a new series, this is a good book to read.
