It’s the beginning of senior year for best friends Nancy and Tabitha. While Nancy is excited about graduating and going to college, Tabitha is anxious about going out into the world and the new responsibilities to come. Tabitha is upset when Nancy begins to avoid her, culminating in a fight, and Nancy refusing to talk to Tabitha. Before they can make up, Nancy is murdered, and the police begin to look at Tabitha as a suspect. Tabitha is determined to find Nancy’s killer, not just to clear her name, but to get justice for Nancy. This becomes more difficult when Tabitha realizes that Nancy had secrets. Secrets that likely killed her. Will Tabitha find Nancy’s killer, or will she be the next victim?
The book had a strong start that easily caught my attention. The first chapter, which was from the point-of-view of the victim before Nancy, dropped a few hints about the killer. There were some elements of the mystery that were pretty obvious to me early on, but they were so obvious that it actually kept me engaged with the story because I kept thinking there had to be more to it. And there was one hint in the first chapter that just didn’t quite fit, so I was constantly wondering what else was going on, until one final piece of information was revealed near the end of the story that brought everything together. And that final revelation was a twist that I didn’t see coming.
Along with having a good plot, this book was also well written. There were some good descriptions, and the dialogue was realistic. Twice the author wrote Nancy’s name instead of Tabitha, but it was otherwise well edited. The characters were a bit stereotypical, especially the side characters, but it works for the plot since you don’t expect some of their actions.
Overall, this was a great book that I have no complaints about, which is why I’m giving it 5 out of 5 stars.
